Jasper has been talking about writing a Great Big Book for quite some time now. Today I stumbled on a post on the BBR website that indicates he has a 650 page brick called "Inside Burgundy" on the way, possibly published in-house by BBR, possibly released to the public on 5 October. Does anyone have more detail on release date, distribution in the USA and other details? Anyone seen an advance copy?
Jasper Morris' new book?

Just went on Amazon USA nothing offered as of yet. I will keep on checking. Let us know when you have updated info

BBR does seem to be handling the distribution itself, so no deep discount free shipping deals from amazon prime seem likely! No matter, I'm sure a number of us will want copies. I just got a note from someone at BBR saying it is now expected late October. Maybe they have advance copies for "journalistes," ya think? I can flash my badge from Les Grands Jours...

The question is; who to flash your badge to(?) ;o)

It's certainly imminent : the UK wine forum has a London lunch on 28 October at which signed copies will be available, and I have been informed that Jasper will be signing copies at the BBR shop on the 29th.

The book will be available in the UK late October. Hoping to be able to advise about US distribution shortly. BBR website will have details later this month for various overseas markets including Australia, Denmark, France, Sweden, Norway and I hope New Zealand.

What with :-
* my still having to get into Burghound's superb looking 'Pearl',
* having only thumbed Charles Taylor's latest Great Domaines,
* with Jasper's book a total must have purchase (I still have fond memories of M & V
being my No 1 wine merchants of choice)
* and one or two other folk reputedly with serious Burgundy books in the pipelineits a great time to be a Burgophile no ? With all this reading to be done seems there might almost be no time to consume the rouge et blanc nectars !!
Really looking forward to the masterwork Jasper !

Am up to page 120ish - so far, if you can only have one book on Burgundy, this would be the one!
Of-course I might think the last 530 pages rubbish - let's see how we go ;o)Posted 2 years ago # -
One quote from Jasper's book:
Sort of influenced my wine for the weekend! There is little as satisfying as a really fine bottle of Meursault in its second decade.

I attended the launch of Jasper Morris' Inside Burgundy book last night, and had the chance to chat with the author. His book shares many qualities with Clive Coates' book - including the "thud factor"! - in that the opening 100 or so pages are rivetingly informative and insightful about fundamental aspects of Burgundy grapes, terroir and winemaking. Like the Remington Norman book, there is also a comprehensive listing of the size of each poducer's plots - invaluable in gauging the availability of a particular wine. Throughout the book the copious factual information is infused with opinion, as he makes clear the qualities he values in the many producers' wines he describes, and the extent to which he really does know his Burgundy vignerons. His teasing out of the ramifications of the Rossignol clan in Burgundy is truly biblical! Also valuable at the end of this 650-page book are his evaluations of all the recent and (then) major burgundy vintages back to the 19th century, and a very rich bibliography. Chapeau!

Is this yet on retail shelves in Paris or Burgundy? I'll be there in a couple of weeks. If not, I guess I'll wait for U.S. distribution. Any word on when that will happen?

Where the heck is the book being "launched"? I 'pre-registered' on the BBR site to be advised when it is available, and have heard zip, zero and nada. So far, batting about as well as Ryan Howard in the post-season. I would love to get a copy, but where and how?

page 400.....

Chambolle,
I also registered and had been 'wondering' what was happening. But, came home tonight to an email inviting an order for a signed copy - order sent !
Assume you will have had the same email as me noting you pre-registered ? If not can only suggest contact BBR ?
Having yet to get 'stuck into' Pearl of the Cote goodness knows when I'm going to have time to read these books - also note Villaine & Norman's Grand Cru is on Amazon - Bill if you are on page 400 I'm in awe of you :-).

I just got the same email. but when I tried to order, the web site rejected me because I had not ordered the minimum shipment to US of 100GBP -- I don't REALLY need two copies! I'll have to email them and see what can be done. Jeepers.

Well in the cross-atlantic shipping cost was similar as Pearl of the Côte, then it would be £100 ;o)chambolle said:

Nanson, I fear you're correct, almost anyway. By the time they tack the 29 GBP shipping cost on, the book will run me about 80 GBP. But the alternative appeared to be to wait until 2011 for US distribution of the book or to lug one of these bricks home from Beaune (assuming they are offered at Athenaeum whenever I am there next), neither of which appealed to me. I suggested that BB&R offer this as an electronic book, either on disc, or for download on kindle or iPad. There being no response, I assume that idea went straight to the BB&R "round file."

I have to eat my hat on this one -- moments after posting I received an email from Jasper Morris hisself, to say they are working on releasing an electronic version of the book in one format or another. By gosh, we're building that bridge to the 21st Century, just like Billy Joe Bob Clinton said we would.

Chambolle (or any others interested),
If you happen to be within shouting distance of the SF Bay area, perhaps we can consolidate an order of 2 books so as to "qualify" for shipment to the U.S.?? b/c I don't want to wait until 2011...

Actually, you can order a single book, but it carries a 29 GBP shipping charge. I got mine a few days ago and am just dipping into it. First (and very cursory) impressions -- very well organized, chock full of detail, definitely not a compendium of tasting notes, some rather opinionated profiles of recent vintages (and not all in agreement with my own views), and considerable homage and deference to Becky Wasserman (certainly well deserved).

I think I'll wait for U.S distribution. I thought the exhange rate was bad for the euro, but my goodness! For the GBP it's horrible! I can't stomach that price for the book.
