I've started with the 06 Bourgogne Chardonnay from Pierre Morey. Very good, but perhaps less good than Alex Gambal's 06 Bourgogne. Lucky I bought 4x as much Gambal!

I was in Burgundy last week to do some visits.
Got a bottle Santenay La Comme 2008 from Pierre-Yves Colin, very good, perfect balance, lovely white fruit, crispy and long.Posted 2 years ago # -

Another 7 day week working on the Baseball simulation program, triple digit highs and Faye and Jesse discussing something about Cathy and Cherry Hill. I asked them to take it outside so they drove over to Bodie, CA and back. I guess the new Nissan is finally broken-in. Enough! Veggie Supreme Pizza w/ It. Sausage and a bottle of C. Moreau Vaillon '06. Excellent Chablis character with some oak. When I last tried this I thought perhaps there was too much wood. Fine

Last night Gros frere et soeur Richebourg 85, fully resolved, not loud but exquisite, Grivot NSG Les Boudots 93, took quite a while to throw off some reductive notes but will be very proper, surprisingly approachable Remy CDLR 99, really full of charm, and serious Christian Clerget Chambolle Charmes 99, not at all open for business.

Savigny-les-Beaune 2003, Tollot-Beaut
Dark red, slightly gamey, strawberry aromas on the nose. Dry strawberry and pithy cherry flavours, this wine still tastes very young and tannic - it does have strong fruit, acidity and tannin but there seems to be little sign of them coming together except after about a couple of hours. Its certainly the most tannic Burgundy vintage I've tasted for a long time (possibly since '93). A very good wine and pretty typical of the vintage.Posted 2 years ago # -
Last night we had a Bouzeron ( Aligote ) 2007 from de Villaine to start with.
He's such a great winemaker, everything's in place, lovely white flowers on the nose, perfect balance, very impressive. After the Bouzeron we had the Clos des Ruchottes 2000 from Rousseau, lively colour medium-full, the nose is not very special but on the palate there's really something going on, very lovely fruit, ripe and creamy, fresh, cool wine.
It's such a pitty that the wines from Rousseau have become almost imposible to find at least at decent prices.Posted 2 years ago # -
Santenay 1997, Domaine Vincent Girardin, 1er cru Les Gravieres.
Last bottle of a case of this. Has been plenty of lively volatile acidity on all of these along the way but this one has less of it, if still a touch spritzy - a spohisticated drink though. Sous bois, verging to vegetal, red fruits nose, a really workable on the palate chewy mix of plummy fruit, red and black, minerality, subsumed tannins and nice acidity. Little to dislike & a quite a complex, drinkable Pinot, hard to pick it's age for what it is.
Enough to make me think more abiut Girardin's wines.
Decent qpr as well

Last night with friends over grilled leg of lamb - 1999 Girardin Bonnes Mares and Clos St Denis. I've loved several bottles of the BM but last night's bottle showed quite a bit of reduction that took a long time to dissipate, thus making the CSD the more attractive drink, despite the BM's edge in focus. Realized this afternoon that my friend hadn't decanted too well as there was at least 2-3 oz of wine left in the bottle so poured it out - this is really a very good wine but one that I think now needs to be left alone (it drank so well for so long that I confess to having opened 5 bottles I think).

Seemingly a bit of a Girardin love-fest this weekend. I think he made some great 99 reds though other vintages I've found a little soupy - if from more modest appellations.

Bill, I pretty much agree - other than some excellent 95 Clos des Chenes, most other girardin wines from other vintages have failed to impress me quite as much as his 99 grand crus.

I also had a Giradin at the weekend, a 2007 Vincent Girardin Monthélie Les Riottes. It was okay, not much fruit, but not too acidic either. I wouldn't get any more though. Also a 2003 Domaine Bruno Clair Marsannay Les Vaudenelles, which was much better, evolved nicely over a couple of hours. I do like Clair's wines.

@MarkR, I had a bottle of same monthelie, wonder if we both shop at waitrose. like you, I didn't find it particularly impressive: little fruit, a bit fusty/old booklike for a young wine.

Dan, yes bought in the sale. I was hoping for some value at the sale price, but this really didn't provide it.
