I've just purchased the above mentioned wine as a wedding gift for some friends and wanted some advice on when to advise them it will be best to drink! I've read on the forum that some of the 2001's are entering a muted phase, should I advise them to drink it on their 5th wedding anniversary or similar! I stumbled upon this forum and hope someone will be able to help. Many thanks in advance.

I'll go out on a limb and say, it needs time, much more time.

I believe our host is highly experienced with this producer. My limited experiences with Castagnier's Grand Crus from 1998 & 1999 (not the Latricieres) suggest that these are rather traditional but not impenetrable wines. If I had only one bottle from 2001, I would wait 5 years or so. One concern, corked bottles from this producer seem to turn up at a rate, I would consider, above what I would consider reasonable.

I had his 2001 Clos St Denis a couple of months ago and it was rather closed relative to the previous bottle I had a year ago... A data point for you.

I'd go with what we know - thanks pifco. I've tasted virtually no Castagnier wines post-1999 but am happy enough with my 96-99 selection...
