De Villaine Bouzeron 2010 and M-Gibourg NSG Aux Chaignots 2007 were most enjoyable with crab course and roast chicken last night.
We ended 2013 with a 96 Hudelot-Noellat Chambolle-Musigny Charmes.
Opened to let stand for an hour before pouring a taste and then let it sit another 40 minutes through the leek-potato soup, lobster tail in orange basil butter sauce and a green salad with a bit of smoked duck slices.
We savored a recent Macon villages through these courses.
At first the H-N was a hard garnet juice. By hour 2 it started to come around with sharp strawberry but still a bunch of rock and dried leaf. The last sips were red, red fruit, soft tannins and a savory finish. The main course was roast game hens stuffed with onion with a side of wild rice.
The first wine of 2014 for is was the 2006 H-N NSG 1er Murgers. Previous bottle a year ago was stellar. As much Vosne as Nuits showing real class and pedigree. This 01/01/2014 bottle seemed more closed and reticent. I might put my remaining case away for a few years before returning to these.
2006 Barthod Chambolle-Musigny AC. Lovely.
Clos Vougeot 2002 Domaine de la Vougeraie. We had another bottle in november 2013 and this bottle was very special, very, very good. The bottle from last Wednesday was totally different, very closed, lots of tannin, brutal. I just took one glass and put the bottle in the fridge to see how it would be the other day. It stayed reticent and hard, no pleasure at all.

Hi Sycamore,
I also had a couple of glasses of 2006 village Gevrey-Chambertin from Rouseau. Lovely (overlooked - though maybe that's because of the price!) wine. Still a bit too much of that vanilla/marzipan oak that Rousseau use, but very, very long and enjoyable.
Hi Bill, and Happy New Year! That '06 Rousseau G-C is indeed fantastic, and these days seems like a bargain at less than 1/2 the cost (when purchased in 2009) of the current release. Agree on the oak note -- picked that up on a recent '07 Rousseau AC too.
The '06 Barthod was as "weightless" a wine as I've had in some time; just pure understated elegance and beauty.
I've said this before -- I generally find 2006 to be an underestimated vintage, at all levels.

Pavelot Dominode 2007, a bit rustic in its flavour profile (in the direction of Gamay) but very good concentration (surprisingly so for the vintage), grip and overall balance. Really a pleasure to drink.
Happy new year to all!
PS: 2013 was finished with a PY Colin-Morey St. Aubin En Remilly 2011.
The second time I have this wine and found it again wonderful.
Bill and Sycamore,
As enjoyable as your respective Village 2006s were, would you say they are completely ready now, or do you think these wines have more time to shine?
I own these and am just trying to get an idea regarding future potential.
Thanks so much for the feedback!
Hi Emile, I'll let Bill answer re the Rousseau since its been a couple of years since I last had it. The Barthod, however, is very open and ready now. There is no need to rush on it -- it should be excellent for some time -- but to me its in a fantastic place at the moment.
2007 Vincent Dancer Chevalier-Montrachet for me: Absolutely superb bottle of wine. Complex, refined, elegant, supremely long. Drinking very well but still very young. Absolutely delicious

Beautifully balanced and with good weight - they will bring enjoyment for the next 30 years I'd say.

Often the Gamay impression is to do with excess CO2 I think. If you'd left enough to try on day 2, I think it'd be gone...
