My top wish list of 2010's is below. Will confess to being a little nervous as a potential buyer in the US though. First, the 3-tier system seems to be doing us no favors, price-wise (e.g., have seen some favorite bottles of '09s escalate in price dramatically over the past year; even some '08s have gone up in price). Also keeping one eye on the stories that we keep reading about Burgundy becoming the new hot wine commodity (following Bordeaux) around the world.

As Sycamore notes above, prices here in the U.S. are not moving in the right direction. This whole idea of Burgundy as the latest fashionable wine is unfortunate. The wonderful early drinking window for many Burgundies is a double-edged sword in this regard, probably attracting many new buyers who do not intend to collect. The few en-premeur prices I've seen offered so far here in the U.S. for 2010's are up significantly from 2009's (Hudelot-Noellat, Chevillon). The water's getting a little deep for my past buying habits (or at least deep for what my wife will let me spend!). But I'll still buy (Chevillon, Geantet-Pansiot, Arnoux, Anne Gros, M. Gros, Arlaud to name a few).

Hm, reagarding the exchange rates, the prices in the US should be stable at least, or go down a bit. I know that the Domaines lifted the prices about 10%, since the amounts where about 40% lower then in 2009. But that's in Euro, and the Dollar went up since last year. Still, I don't know how far this can go. I took the chance and bought two more mixed cases of 2007 and 2008 (Chevillon, Lamarche, Rossignol-Trapet) for prices about 30% - 40% under 2010. (And some Champagne, too, to keep my wife in a good mood ;-)) I have the impression, that this will be the last chance to get reasonable prices for Top-Burgundies (at least till the next crisis rises...)

It seems one can ask...but availability is restricted... Bought my (reduced but still significant) Grivot's pile and bought a few bottles of negociant wines (Faiveley Cazetiers, Jadot CSJ,...). Have asked for a few other boxes from my favorites but will be patient to see if I am rewarded...

HUDELOT NOELLAT (VOUGEOT)
Bourgogne Rouge
Slightly leafy, herbaceous notes masking red cherry and redcurrant fruits. Sherbety but mouthwatering acidity with dusty tannins with soft red fruits. Very nice texture. Good quality. 16.5
Chambolle Musigny
Earthy, forest floor notes as well as red cherry and raspberry fruits and some aniseed. Good concentration of red cherry fruit on the palate, crunchy tannins with a slight salty tang on the finish. 17.5
Vosne Romanee 1er Cru Beaumonts
Gamey/Bacon fat nose which opens up to lots of red fruits behind. Very fine, elegant style.Many layers of flavour. Excellent. 18
Vosne Romanee 1er Cru Suchots
Lashings of red fruit on the nose (cherry, strawberry and wild raspberry), with clove spice in the background. Soft and silky tannins. A big step up in mid palate richness of fruit from the other wines, but in an elegant rather than overblown style. Salty and savoury on the finish. Really Amazing this. 19
SYLVIE ESMONIN (GEVREY CHAMBERTIN)
Gevrey Chambertin
Very distinctive notes. Gamey, mushroomy, spice as well as cherry and redcurrants. Lots of freshness and mouthwatering acidity. Palate has good concentration of ripe fred fruits, savoury texture. Very good. 17
Gevrey Chambertin Vieilles Vignes
Nose slightly muted at this stage when compared to the straight GC; some red fruits hiding in the background. Rich and full on the palate; bags of red fruits but with lots of bite from the ripe tannins. 17.5
Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St Jacques
As with the VV slightly muted initially on the nose. Opens up to reveal some violet flowers and cherry and strawberry fruits. Big step up in richness on the palate. Crunchy tannins which is well integrated with the ripe red fruits. Savory finish. Fresh acidity. This is very exciting. 19
JESSAIUME (SANTENAY)
Santenay 1er Cru Gravieres Blanc
Very attractive pear fruits, with some honeysuckle. Some tropical fruit flavours. Great freshness and richness. I was very impressed with this. Good VFM also. 17.5
Auxey Duresses Rouge
Red strawberry fruits. Mouth watering acidity, savoury finish. Not overly complex but well made. 16.5
Santenay 1er Cru Gravieres Rouge
Attractive floral notes. Red fruits; redcurrant, strawberry. Spiky tannins and juicy acidity. Interested to see how this develops. Very Good. 17

A few more notes to share. So far I am pretty impressed with what I am seeing at all levels; the wines seem to have some real definition whether it be high acids, rich fruit concentration or great tannin structure. One appellation that I am constantly being "blown away by" is Marsannay. Quality is fantastic and the wines are well priced as well. The only problem that I foresee is getting hold of some of the Reds as yields are well down (30% to 50% in some cases).
DUROCHE (GEVREY CHAMBERTIN)
Gevrey Chambertin "Jeunes Rois"
Sweet juicy red fruits (cherry, raspberry, strawberry) with gentle tannins. Very refreshing style. Very good. 16.5
Gevrey Chambertin "Aux Etelois"
More heady nose than the Jeunes Rois; cherry and plum fruits with some floral and spicy notes. Great freshness, lovely texture in the mouth. Firmer tannins but nicely integrated with the fruit. Verg Good. 17
Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Estournelles St Jacques
Earthy, gamey and clove notes at the forefront, with bags of red fruit lurking in the background. Rich and volupturous fruit concentration; big step up from the two village wines. Spiky, but ripe tannins with some minerality on the finish. 17.5
Charmes Chambertin
Much more floral notes than any of the other wines. Lots of lush red fruits with soft and supple tannins; for me just lacking a bit of complexity for a wine at this level. 16.5
Latricieres Chambertin
This is more like it. Lots of wonderful aromas(clove, cinnamon,thyme, smoked pancetta, earthy, mushroom and red fruits). Rich and oily, lots of mid palate weight. Chewy but utterly delightful tannins; very fresh acid balance. Rich, savoury finish. Excellent. 18.5
PIERRE DAMOY (GEVREY CHAMBERTIN)
Gevrey Chambertin "Clos Tamisot"
Rich nose; forest floor, spice, cinnamon, clove, bacon fat, black and red fruits. Bags of mouthwatering of acidity. Fairly coarse, firm tannins but bags of fruit beneath. Excellent quality at this level. 18
Chapelle Chambertin
Moody nose; not giving up much. Spice, black cherry, sea salt and black olive. Rich, full on style (slightly over extracted?). Very chewy tannins; lots of power and weight. 17
Chambertin Clos de Beze
Lots of aromatics here; violets, wild roses, porcini mushroom and cured meatsa and ripe fruits. Very tight on the palate; tannins "kick in" almost immediately but lots of delights hiding in the background. Great freshness. Very fine indeed. 19
HUDELOT NOELLAT (VOUGEOT)
Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Charmes
Stinky nose; gamey, shitty, mushroomy - lovely stuff! Lush and silky fruits,firm but very ripe tannins. Very good indeed. 18
Clos Vougeot
Earthy notes, some wild flowers and stewed fruits (plum and cherry). Fairly open style, lots of lush red fruits. Super intensity and beautiful acid/fruit balance. 18.5
JEAN FOURNIER (MARSANNAY)
Marsannay Clos du Roy Blanc
Nervy, kerosene notes, orange blossom with ripe peach and nectarine. Lots of mid plate richness - tropical fruits; great oak integration. Beautifully balanced. Very fine indeed; so much better than I was expecting. 18
Marsannay Clos du Roy Rouge
Fresh, forward nose, some spice notes, Masses of red fruits, soft and supple. Mouthwatering sherbet like acidity and then the structure takes over and it closes up on the finish. WOW; is this really Marsannay that I am tasting? 18.5
Marsannay Echezots
A little backward on the nose. Some confected red fruits(fruit pastille!). On the palate the wine is much more open than the Clos du Roy; one for earlier drinking. Attractive fresh acidity. Very Good. 17.5
Marsannay "Trois Terres"
Very lifted violet/floral top notes. Rich and full on the palate; a bit too extracted for my taste. Coarse, firm tannins. 16.5
COILLOT (MARSANNAY)
Marsannay Grasses Tetes
Lots of floral notes and red fruits (strawberry, raspberry). Very fruit driven style, well rounded tannins. lots of freshness. Good. 16
Marsannay Longeroies
More powerful nose than the Grasses Tetes. Some black fruit as well as red fruit. Rich on the palate; very silky tannins. Very Good. 17
DOMAINE DES LAMBRAYS (MOREY ST DENIS)
Morey St Denis
Lots of sea salt, some florals, delicate red fruits (reminds me of a young barolo). Delicious, delicate fruits. Beautiful lemon sherbet like acidity which carrys everything along. Very fine indeed. 17.5
Clos de Lambrays
Amazing floral notes just like the Morey. Some spices and red fruits (redcurrant, red cherry). Good concentration of fruit on the mid palate. Chewy, chalky tannins. 17
FOURRIER (GEVREY CHAMBERTIN)
Morey St Denis Clos Solon
Red fruits; strawberry and raspberry. Some earthy notes. A little light in the mid palate; fairly coarse tannins. 16
Gevrey Chambertin Vieilles Vignes
Rhubarb, red cherry and spice. Soft juicy fruits; great texture and weight. 17
Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Cherbaudes
Leafy, herbaceous notes. Raspberry, Cherry and Wild strawberry fruits. Fine, juicy tannins with some good mid palate richness. Zesty acidity and very fresh. 17.5
Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Champeaux
Prominent, fruity nose almost "bubble gum" like. Succulent crunchy fruits (cherry, raspberry) beautifully concentrated and then the cherry blossom perfumes take you off in another direction. Super lenght; this is a super wine. 19.5
Gervey Chambertin 1er Cru Combe aux Moines
More earthy notes, roasted meats and spices. Red cherry and rhubarb. More obvious structure than the other Gevrey's. Crunchy, stalky tannins but very ripe. Amazing freshness and weight. 19

Thanks for the comments - most wines for me chosen for various personal type reasons. I've bought your Bachelet VV in previous vintages but not this year.
Re the Duroche, yes, it has been confirmed with the Aloxe and the Vaumuriens (Flint). If you don't get your's then, whilst I may change my mind, come back to me maybe and perhaps we can look at some sort of swapsie ?
Since posting the above list I've also added 3 bottles each of Pascal Marchand's 2010 Mazis and MDS Faconnieres from a certain well know NW England merchant offering the opportunity to mix a case (made it up to 12 with 3 bottles each of late release Lafon Meursault Clos de la Barre for a mate of mine.
I also had a surprise merchant come back, in that post knock back on the Vosne's the merchant in question then offered me a sale or decline 12 case of Clavelier's Vosne PC Beaux Monts. So far have not sent the invoice back ;-)
I'd have liked some of Ray's Ilan 2011's but timing of the offer is all wrong for me and funds finite. Would love a few bottles of Rousseau or Dujac (won't be both) in summer late release and that's my lot - full stop.
Have more or less told myself given my age and cellar size that this was my last EP campaign - daughter going to Uni adds to thought process. Be plenty of opportunities to back fill with lesser wines for drinking in years to come I reckon.

Nice pick up on the Pascal Marchand Mazis. I heard some very good things about this wine but alas my funds could not stretch to that as well; pity that!
Like yourself I will look to pick up some Rousseau from the late summer release and that will be that for this campaign. I probably overspent this campaign but am not going to bother with Bordeaux EP this year so can justify my increased purchases.

It won't be any time soon I am afraid..... but it goes without saying that not all of the abovementioned wines come in cases of six.... The Roumier, Rouget, Comte Liger Belair La Romanee, Meo Camuzet Cros Parantoux are either two or three bottles each. Rousseau Chambertin, Comte de Vogue Musigny, Mugnier Musigny , Grivot Richebourg are one magnum and one 'normal' bottle of each and the others are cases of six.
And yes, I do like to drink them in the presence of friends and family. I did buy a bit more in 2009 and 2010 vs for instance 2008 (although also an excellent and in my view often overlooked and underrated vintage so I have been stocking up on them, particularly in light of 2009 and 2010 prices) and 2007. But on average, I buy 250 bottles per year, whereas I drink 150 per year (not all by myself....). But there will be a time when I will stop buying and that's when the excess 100 bottles, most likely the grandest of grand crus that will have required longest cellaring, will be popped and poured. Save the best for last, so to say.

It sounds good JC. I go twice to the burgundy and have only bottles in my cellar from vigneron which I know personally. I was also 3 weeks ago in Strasbourg(fair from independent vignerons) where we bought some 2010 from Cyrot Pommard, Volnay, Santenay and Maranges. From Piguet(AUxey) some great Meursault. Furthermore I bought Rully 1er cru and 6 Mercurey 1er from Ninot(Rully).
I bought also 24 bottles of Champagne from Monmarthe(great stuff)
I have some reservation open by Serveau(Morey), Morot(Beaune) and Thomas Morey(Chassagne).

For my part, I've so far only executed on the Fourrier and Hudelot-Noellat aspects of my "cunning plan". Hoping the others on the list start showing up on offer over the next few months (and most of them should, fingers crossed), even if in small quantities......

I just bought 6 Santenay Clos Rosseau and 6 Pommard 1er Cru Charniere from Cyrot-Buthiau.
Excellent value. I tasted his 2011 from barrel and was very impressed about it.
I bought some Mercurey 1er cru and Rully 1er cru from Ninot in Rully.
i have a lot of bottles reserved at Serveau for the 2009 which are as good as the 2003.

Sycamore: I have to agree re the Rousseau CSJ although it was very expensive; think it shows what excellent value the Sylvie Esmonin CSJ is in comparison. The Rousseau Ruchottes does indeed seem to be a tough one to get hold of these days. I did like the sound of your Blackadder esque "cunning plan"! Care to elaborate?
Bill: What did you pick up from Ponsot and Pataille? My purchase of the Ramonet 1er Cru Clos de la Boudriotte Rouge was based on your glowing recommendation in the book; looking forward to trying it when it shows up. Wish I could afford everything in the book also; still their is always next year!

Baldrick I am not, I fear. The plan was never really that cunning, and is looking less so with each day's retrospective. My hope was to secure my favorites (the list + 5-7 other domaines) over the course of the year in quantities and at times/intervals so as to not wreck the family budget. Hudelot-Noellat showed up early on, and I've been able to tack on quantities from other retailers at what can only be described as "Crazy Eddie" pricing -- too good to pass up. Fourrier has been pieced together here and there, and prices have shot up (after having previously shot up in 2009). The CSJ may soon be completely off of the "must buy" list -- pricing here in the US is 2-3X that of the '08s. Sad, really. The plan breaks down further from there in that none of the others have been on offer, at least from the retailers I frequent. I think that if they turn up at all, it will be in a budget-wrecking avalanche between about October and March........
