Quick question for you on the forthcoming book release of the Finest Wines of Burgundy. I hope you don't take this the wrong way but I'm just trying to ascertain whether the book will contain any additional / new information that I would not be able to find in other books on Burgundy that I have? I regularly use Cote d'Or / The Wines of Burgundy by Coates and Inside Burgundy as my main reference points.

I did purchase the Finest Wines of Tuscany by Nick Belfrage some time ago and have found this a useful resource, although there is generally a lack of good reference titles on Italy in the market as way of competition.

I guess I can give a quick overview.
Intro/background covers what I consider the most imoportant points relating to burgundy as we see it today; i.e. key history points/influences and the most important points influencing our drinking today e.g. critics, p.ox and how to avoid the 'burgundy is a minefield' mentality - I have the impression than none of those points have been broached in other titles.
There are 90 domaines profiled - and that is all up-to-date - at least as of July this year, including what I would consider a decent percentage of 'new faces'. They are split into Côte de Nuits and Beaune sections, each profiling the villages in that côte - you might realisticly expect that I couldn't cover the vineyards in the same detail as Jasper, but perhaps I have some different/other observations.

Can I ask what is the current status on the 'Monopole' book that I know you have been compiling?

Well Mark, Côte de Nuits is 90% complete - the research, Côte de Beaune is 60% complete - also the research. I would be lying if I said I'd committed more than 10% of the text to word documents.

I actually thought the other project would be a good way of of getting an idea what's required for book publishing and make some new contacts - I expect that with a fair wind I might be in a position to publish in about 3 years!

I have now finished Bills book and I thought it was wonderful, I actually read it in a couple of hours, it was that entertaining
