No he's not giving up / selling-out / otherwise retiring - at least as far as I know!!!

It is reported on the wineberserker's web-forum, that the wines of Denis have doubled in price from 2009 to 2010 vintage to an eye-watering $550 ticket for the Charmes-Chambertin (in the US!). There are reports of similar increases in other markets. I'm not sure if this is fair because many people are assuming it is the domaine that is responsible for this - I doubt it as I've seen lower prices (~150 Euros) for the 10s in Europe - that said, they are now sold out, so is this the new 'going-rate'?

Rather like Fourrier's 'top two', it does sound like I will no longer be augmenting my celler with Denis's most 'sought-after' wines though. Lucky I still have some 99s ;-)

I bought a 6 pack of the Gevrey Chambertin Vieilles Vignes 2010 En Primeur earlier this year for £231/6 IB which I thought was a touch high for a villages wine but not excessively so.

This was my first time buying wines from Denis Bachelet and I was really pleased to get an allocation. It seems that if you are able to get allocations on the better premier and grand crus from some of the 'grande marque' producers then you are doing well; of course that is somewhat dependant on whether you have the funds available to finance these purchases in the first place!

Whoa, I think nearly 40 Pounds (means about 50,- Euro?!) is pretty excessive for a village. You can still get Premier Crus from real good producers for this price. Or am I spoiled? Anyway, I'm out at this rate.

If prices are doubled in both the US and Europe and the money is not going to Bachelet, wouldn't the likely person be Becky Wasserman?

Well, as noted in my opening remark Howard - price didn't double in Europe - at least when the wines were first offered. I would expect that Le Serbet could influence the initial offer price, but once those are sold, pricing is in the hand of the next tier - and there too many tiers in the US imo...

As I reported in the Topic on US Burgundy Prices, Denis Bachelet is not responsible for the horrible Price Increases. At the importer I know, the Charmes-Chambertin 2010 was selling for 125 €, all 2010 was quickly sold out. So the winery is not responsible.
