Hot from the presses this weekend: Some newish producer recs from Jancis Australian ‘grand cru’ whites Thibault on holiday! Thinking about listing links like those above, you may, or may not, be interested in how some people end up here, or hereabouts. To the right is a summary of last year’s referrals (links) to this site. If you were to drill down on the ‘search engines’ you see what an effective monopoly of searches Google has; Yahoo and Bing combined reach a measly total of about 2,500 views. Twitter, despite media-darling status, was way down the list with 308 views. Maybe I should consider using it more – but then I never was much of a ‘pusher’!

There are few movers, just the worst of 2008 and 2009 plus the average 2009 go down one point. 2010 is added but in brackets as the wines are not finished and delivered – those points awarded will be unchanged until this time next year. As always – the broadest of brushes… Here.

I must admit that after nearly nine years, this site is getting hard to keep up with – there are many pages, begun with the best of intentions, that need maintaining. Three I finally got around to are the following: Discovering Burgundy: 10. Harvest vol. by appellation 13. A technical glossary 19. Producer links Actually that last one was more like copying, pasting and slightly tidying the list that I put together about 2004-2005 – a few things have moved on since then! If you see some new producer websites, feel free to let me know – or comment on that specific page. Thanks!

How can I be so proud? It’s frankly meaningless given that the site has been up and running since the end of 2002, yet having installed webstats at the end of 2009, I can’t help but feel a pang of pride as, yesterday, we pass the one-million mark. I suppose a little over half a million per year is not so bad…

Ah it’s January and a young wine-buyer’s thoughts turn to en-primeur! Well that’s the case for anyone with an association with the UK market, which seems to have retained its relative importance despite (just like the US) buying very little of the 2007 and 2008 vintages – or has it? – I wonder if merchant’s allocations are quite at the same level as before. I’m not sure you’d find anyone who would admit it even if it was the case. Anyway, on Friday I’ll post a link to some EP offers that are already available – the first tastings are already starting next week. At home I’ve started the year drowning under the weight of things I have to write and things I’ve not yet [....]

Various things: I’ve just done what I suppose will be a roughly annual updating of my Burgundy Vintage Chart, it slightly preempts the Autumn Burgundy Report which should be online by the end of next week (should be!). As mentioned, you’re having to wait for the Autumn report because I have too many things – I will have to do some culling to make everything fit! I’ve also updated the cuvée information at the end of the Hospices profile; much had changed since 2005. The last days have seen some tasty wine, but not in situations for studied note-taking: Friday evening with friends majored on spicy food, so we stayed with white wines; some fizz, an 07 Alsace Riesling GC, Mischief & Mayhem’s 2007 Puligny [....]

RSS: http://www.burgundy-report.com/diary/feed/ Atom: http://www.burgundy-report.com/diary/feed/atom/ Another attack of techy-itis – hopefully the last. The above is the new feed location for this journal. I’m sorry for any inconvenience to your feed readers…

Just a short note that a few people were missing the feed from recent posts in their RSS reader. It’s a function of the recent site update, so you will now need to point your ‘reader’ to the following new url: http://www.burgundy-report.com/?feed=rss2 Thanks!

If anyone’s having problems – sorry. The whole site was re-linked (with redirections) overnight. The site will be easier to manage but you might experince quite a lot of dead links if you’ve bookmarked any particular pages – just so you know. The NoteFinder is today’s biggest casualty – hopefully back later today…

Burgundy Forum is here. I made a forum – I have to say, it was surprisingly painless to install. What won’t be painless, and will most likely take at least a week of part-time fiddling, will be my attempts to make it look like it fits to the site, rather than some techie add-on. Have fun, and note that there’s only one rule – be civil! Domaine names? I am warned from overseas today: Following are all the domain names and internet Keyword which are submitted by Matua company: 1. Domain names: Burgundy-report.net Burgundy-report.cn Burgundy-report.com.cn Burgundy-report.tw Burgundy-report.jp Burgundy-report.se Burgundy-report.ch Burgundy-report.es Burgundy-report.asia 2. Internet Keyword: Burgundy-report However, I can block them if I wish (it’s a small time window of-course) by buying them all myself…..

Lots of Chambolle 1er Les Fuées with Jacky Rigaux last night – while the site was looking a bit odd after the server change – if odd for half a day is all I have to put up with, that’s fine! Back to the Fuées; when I say lots, it was ‘only’ ten wines. If I add a few more it could be the basis of (okay, I’ll say it before you do – the ‘padding’ for) a vineyard profile – hmm – perhaps in the Autumn Burgundy Report, Summer is already booked Of note, there were 2 wines from the 2004 vintage and let me just say, you didn’t need sight of the label to guess the vintage!

In the next few days the whole of this site will be moving to another server. I’m quite sure that this is a tried and tested process and that nothing can go wrong. That said, this is my last entry until all is done – 2 days, 3 days or the sky falling in – we will see. Signing off – hopefully for a short time….
