2008 Pierre Damoy, Chambertin Clos de Bèze
Medium, medium-plus colour. Lovely precise dark fruits on the nose, partly shaded to black, hints of minerals too before a beautiful note of violets takes centre-stage – just lovely. Cool in the mouth with initially understated impact, yet there is a wonderful complexity of fruit flavours. Just about perfect acidity finally meets tannin with a little hard grain to it. Long and very fine indeed – a clear winner!
Rebuy – Yes

Hi Filippo, I don’t know what’s changed as I only started following the wines from 06 – I know the work has been changing in the vines – mainly as they have been recovered from those renting them – but only know the current ‘regime’ in the cuverie:

Pierre says he prefers to use either all or no stems, but in practice it’s somewhere between – I hardly ever get an obvious note from them though. GCs get about 75% new wood, and are typically neither fined nor filtered – action by the phase of the moon no-less…

    Thanks Bill.

As I am always interested in Domaine with a purist approach where would you characterize this in terms of transparency/respect of terroir ?

[I know it’s a kind of hard/loose question but I hope you get what I mean]

      Hi Filippo
I consider there’s a high degree of transparency – you get 100% wine – I can also hardly remember a whiff or impression of oak. For the main vineyards owned; Chapelle and Bèze, I’d say the wines have little to be ashamed of in any company – including Ponsot, Rousseau, etc..
      Cheers, Bill
