Volnay Clos d'Audignac

2009 Pousse d'Or Volnay Clos d'Audignac

Medium-plus colour. There is a more meaty depth to the fruit than was the case for the Caillerets. In the mouth this is very finely proportioned, offering a lovely balance between the tannin and the understated (though just about perfect) acidity. The oak is here as a flavour component too, but it seems to be in a more supporting role than some of the other wines.

Medium colour. Rather tight aromas, but with baked red fruit that reminds me of my 1993 Audignacs. Whilst balanced and reasonably structured, you have to wait for the mid-palate and finish to get some excitement – but here there’s plenty of action and complexity. A nice wine.

The aromas a quite mineral, but mixed with dark (but not black) cherry. Good, mouth-filling concentration and super acidity. High-toned and very focused fruit in the finish – super!
