Meursault Les Clous

2007 Bouchard Père et Fils Meursault Les Clous

The nose shows a more intense mineral/fruit mix – quite high-toned. Lovely width and dimension, the intensity digs into you – a wine with great energy. Lovely.

Pale colour. Aromatic width and a slightly mineral impression. Super acidity. This has an impressive linearity about it, some minerality and eventually just a little Meursault padding. Impressive.

From a cool parcel the domaine owns just above the premier crus. Light in colour. High toned with not so much going on below. The palate, however, is packed with deep fruit that lingers very well into the finish. Nice wine.

Bouchard own 8.7 hectares in this vineyard – almost 50% of the appellation. The vines are set high on the hill, so this is often one of the very last vineyartds to be harvested. Nicely crisp and fresh aromatics that never really develop further while we’re together. The palate is still quite rich, but is mouth-filling in quite a mineral way – there’s a nice character to this wine.

From high on the hill by the cross of St.Christophe, roughly north-east facing and often quite a windy site so typically providing an extra freshness. The soil is the same as the Meursault premiers but from around 40 metres higher. Of Bouchard’s 12 hectares of village wine, 8 comes from here. High-toned, a mix of estery and floral notes. Sweet with some fat and density, but there’s some mouthwatering on the finish to provide balance. This almost good for a 2003.

20% new oak used here, the vineyard is at the top of Meursault, lots of limestone in the vineyard. Again quite pale. Nose is ‘wider’ and a little deeper than the last wine. Fuller palate with a touch of fig fruit on the much longer finish, nice acidity too. Also a lovely wine.
