Corton Bressandes

2009 Mischief and Mayhem Corton Bressandes

The nose is wide and fine with pretty high tones, yet it is perhaps a little tight as it shows less intensity than the previous wines. In the mouth this is quite lovely; round, not a little brooding you are left with a furry tannin to remind you. This is clearly a little tight today but shows the hallmarks of good winemaking.

Yet again there is a floral dimension to the aromas, perhaps a little licorice too – I love the aromatic complexity. Round, supple and full flavoured. Friendly but not facile Corton.

The nose is soft and shows some smoky stems, it keeps changing, showing some lovely red berries. Full, very round with good structure to underpin it – indeed the acidity is quite in the background.

Medium, medium pale colour. Red, slightly cooked fruit. This is lithe and quite intense. Relatively in the background structure – today it says ‘wait!’

More typically Corton – indeed from the heart of Corton. The nose has a deeper, sweeter red note that slowly adds a floral dimension. Fresh and with a more apparent structure – long flavours that hold strongly. Sweet and red, but not artificially so – very nice.

Wide, fresh red fruit that’s coupled to hints of leaves with deeper, baked red fruits. Very smooth across the tongue, there’s still plenty of tannin but it’s oh-so silky. Still rather linear, but the flavour holds very well into the finish – still, it’s very approacheable.

Deep, dark and slightly oaky aromas. Ripe, with a sweet width of fruit. Very muscular with a grainy tannin. The flavour extends very well into a good length finish.

2008 Dubreuil-Fontaine Corton Bressandes

A good width of mainly dark fruit aromas that are coupled to faint herbs. Even after the Vercots we have a clear extra level of power and mid-palate dimension. The tannin is slightly grainy, though okay. Lots of energy here. Good wine.

1978 Dubreuil-Fontaine Corton Bressandes

There’s a width of sweet, comforting fruit. In the mouth it is just as compelling as the Clos de Vougeot that preceded it; muscular, tight and tannic with the flavour of gorgeous warm, browned fruits that linger beautifully. Superb.
