Dusty cherry aromas. Good acidity, likewise the fruit is beyond expectation for the label. The tannin is a little harder but this is very young – super Bourgogne.

Medium colour. The nose starts a little disappointingly with something that reminds me of brett – this is backed-up with a metallic taste – my first bottle like this. Time in the glass and the aroma is less overt, eventually showing a baked tart red fruit. In the mouth the metallic taste is transient, leaving a smooth, nicely acidic wine with decent intensity of warm round fruit and a mouth-watering finish. My last bottle was much finer but if brett is the culprit, all or none of my remaining bottles could have it. Still as the character faded this was very drinkable indeed.

2009 Esmonin Sylvie Bourgogne

Good colour. There’s a depth of dark fruit. In the mouth this is quite full with ripe fruit. Good but understated structure and slowly lingering flavour – a success!

2008 Chauvenet Jean Bourgogne

A nice medium-plus colour. The nose has an almost textured depth of dark red fruit. A little CO2 spoils the presentation of the tannin, but this is fresh in a good way and slowly lingering. Another six months in bottle plus a decanter will provide all the roundness needed.

2006 Mugneret-Gibourg Georges Bourgogne

The second from this case. Medium-plus colour. The deep nose shows plenty of dark cherry. More concentrated than you expect given the label, with a velvet texture and showing an extra dimension of flavour in the mid-plate. A decent finish too. This wine is in an excellent place right now!

2008 Lejeune Bourgogne

By billn on February 25, 2010

Medium, medium-plus colour. The nose is a sweet, red/black, (mainly red) cherry over a base of herbs, even faint violets – it does remind me of Lejeune’s 2005 but this is more open. Some fat and some faintly astringent tannin before a lip-smacking tart cherry acidity. Okay length, and provided you like acid slap, this is a super, pinot fun-delivering bottle. The acidity might get a little too much in a couple of years, but this will be lovely over the summer – I really must check on the domaine’s ‘higher’ wines from 2008…

2006 Confuron-Cotetidot Bourgogne

Medium cherry-red. Sweet, only slightly smokey stems, rather candied red/blue fruit. The palate is as sweet as the nose, with understated acidity. Occasional sips give a padded, slightly plush texture, but most show a mid-palate/tannins with a slightly astringent, sharp effect. Quite long finishing, but this far from a ‘together’ wine. Day two, less aromatically interesting, but more ‘together’ on the palate. I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt and say wait another year or two – it’s not really for today though…
