2006 Tollot-Beaut, Chorey-lès-Beaune Pièce du ChapitreDec. 2008 A little more depth, and certainly finer. The structure is relatively buried and there’s a nice burst of interest on the mid-palate and into the finish. Very good.
2006 Tollot-Beaut, Aloxe-CortonDec. 2008 The nose is less effusive than the Champs-Chevery, though perhaps deeper. In the mouth there’s good concentration though the fruit is less obviously ripe as the last wine. Good balanced and a great finish.
2005 Tollot-Beaut, Chorey-lès-BeauneApr. 2008 Quite deeply coloured. The nose is deep, broad and significantly oaked – but it’s rather impressive and fun too relative to the price and appellation. Directly after the Voillot Rugiens there is similar density but nothing close to the clarity, focus or intensity – but then we’re at 40% of the sticker price. Fun and tasty, also very good value – just don’t line it up with anything too flashy.
2005 Tollot-Beaut, Chorey-lès-Beaune Pièce du ChapitreNov. 2007 High-toned nose with nice fruit. Ripe red fruit over background darker oak notes in the mouth. Nicely serious this – a good wine.
2005 Tollot-Beaut, Aloxe-CortonNov. 2007 A nicely wide nose. High-toned, middle-weight sweet red fruit in the mouth. Lovely but too easily forgettable…
1976 Tollot-Beaut, Aloxe-CortonDec. 2006 Clean and bright, medium, medium-plus colour – a mahogany rim but clearly still a ruby-red core. From opening this was just a little monolithic on the nose; faint baked fruit and a savoury undercurrent. If you wait – over 1 hour – the nose tightens to a very nice and tight powdery red fruit impression The palate is surprisingly plush and intense – it’s hard to keep hold of the wine, as your mouth starts watering in response to the acidity. I’m very impressed by the balance here. Slowly some sweetness builds to counterbalance an edge of tartness in the finish. The tannins are still there and quite chewy. This is a surprisingly robust and healthy wine – just like the label says, this is a village wine so no real fireworks or mind-bending length, but it’s always interesting to drink a wine that was harvested around your 14th birthday!
2004 Tollot-Beaut, Chorey-lès-BeauneAug. 2006 A wine which combines several parcels from around the village. Deep, comfortingly ripe nose. Lots of interesting high-toned fruit and though there’s a slight grain to the tannin, this is very accomplished for a ‘basic’ wine. Very tasty.
2004 Tollot-Beaut, Chorey-lès-Beaune Pièce du ChapitreAug. 2006 A deep, slightly tight nose of mainly black fruit that opens-out to provide a red dimension. A little extra concentration and finer tannin; quite elegant with a well-concentrated mid-palate. Nicely balanced and a tasty step-up from the basic Chorey-lès-Beaune.
2000 Tollot-Beaut, Chorey-lès-BeauneJul. 2004 Medium cherry red with a slightly amber rim. The nose is red and powdery/dusty. Good fat with nice furry tannin and good fruit. A little TCA taint on the palate, but a good bottle would be a very good value wine, both interesting and showing none of the jammy fruit you sometimes find with Chorey
2000 Tollot-Beaut, Chorey-lès-BeauneApr. 2003 Medium cherry red. Nose is sweet and oaky with difficult to define, though cooked red fruits. Soft, with good acidity and concentration. Sometimes I get a bit of a “bubble-gum” impression with Chorey, but not in this case. Very good for Chorey-les-Beaune.
