Vintage information 1999:

A very expensive release for followers of 'Burgundy'...
Little to say; despite the high yields, it was a very good year for whites and we hope (given the quantity of bottles in my cellar) one of the best for a generation in reds - unusually from both Côtes.
The wines displayed uncommon but not excessive density to match the fine acidity.
From the better producers the wines can be magnificent. Recent bottles show that the wines are a long, long way from maturity

1999 Gaunoux Francois, Pommard Les RugiensMar. 2010
A very, very interesting mix of herbs and complex fruits. Mouth-filling, plenty of (balanced) tannin. Now there’s a small burst of fruit flavour. Good length – I like this a lot.
1999 Girardin Aleth, Pommard Les RugiensMar. 2010
Deep colour. The aromas are concentrated but a little soft-focus. In the mouth there’s warm red fruit, the tannin is not so astringent but overall I’m missing a little ‘punch’. Only ‘okay’ in this context.
1999 Lejeune, Pommard Les RugiensMar. 2010
Magnum. Concentrated, intense red fruit, maybe a hint reduced, edged with the ubiquity of the Pommard herbs. Very fine though astringent tannin. Lots of impact and dimension here. Super length and super concentration. If the last was an aristo, this is an entertainer!
1999 Violot-Guillemard Thierry, Pommard Les RugiensMar. 2010
Wide aromas of red berries and herbs. Initially silky, eventually velvet textured. Beautiful balance, eventually an extra flavour element comes through. This is very primary and shows very good length. A baby!
1999 Jadot Louis, Pommard Les RugiensJul. 2006
Medium ruby-red. Deep, slightly savoury red nose and top note of violets and just a little undertone of herbs. The palate is fresh and quite elegant, shows good acidity and a nice little burst of concentration. The finish is of the slowly fading variety. Understated rather than impressive.
